UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FALLS TO 10.5%

Portugal’s rate of unemployment totalled 10.5% in November (it was 12,3% in November 2015), according to a provisional estimate from the country’s National Statistics Institute (INE), which also lowered the figure for October to 10.6%, compared to an initial estimate of 10.8%.

According to INE, the unemployment rate was higher among women (10.5%) than men (10.4%) compared to October 2016, with the number of unemployed women falling by 0.1 percentage points and the number of unemployed men by 0.3 percentage points.

Unemployment among young people was 28.4%, 0.6 percentage points higher than in the previous month, while among adults it was 9.1%, or 0.2 percentage points lower.
